The Berkeley Hotel in Scunthorpe, owned by Sam Smiths Brewery, looks set to reopen later in November following a flurry of activity at the pub where trade vans were seen as wooden boards were removed from windows and activity noted inside the pub. This is great news for this much-missed pub, with its ornate art deco interior. It's also the only Sam Smiths pub locally still selling the company's single real ale, Old Brewery Bitter. This may represent a change of attitude of this notoriously reclusive company after the recent reopening of Highfield House in the town centre, another of their pubs which had been closed up for a number of months.
